| Hope Cheltenham makes it a more interactive experience |
I tweeted it was a pretty meh! event as my experience was not the best.
At 7.20 I arrived got given the voucher, interacted with one of the organisers outside, entered the bar and was promptly told by a very rude barman that the free drink voucher was null and void and they weren't taking them anymore walking off without giving me a chance to 'cough' pay for a drink. The music was blearing throughout the bar and people were shouting like they do on that Fosters Ad (below) so I thought - fuck it - I'll go somewhere else where I can talk to people and interact.
I was meeting up with 3 other people a bit later in the night at the Jewel venue so after heading down to the Sports cafe and mixing with some people down there I headed back up to Jewel where many smaller groups had moved off and were creating trending spots around the city.
2 tips to other cities like Jakarta , Sydney , Paris , Auckland -
1) wear your foursquare or twitter id (on a badge which the organiser can write on a white sticker) on entry to the building so you can interact with people.
2) Choose a location where the volume of the music doesn't kill off the interaction of the guests attending.
My guess is a lot of foursquare people would have checked in - got their badge and then went elsewhere as it was just the wrong setting for a proper interactive event. I am sure dozens enjoyed it but I am also sure dozens went off into the London night discovering bars like De Hems which was trending heavily around 7.54pm.1) wear your foursquare or twitter id (on a badge which the organiser can write on a white sticker) on entry to the building so you can interact with people.
2) Choose a location where the volume of the music doesn't kill off the interaction of the guests attending.
10/10 for effort and enthusiasm
5/10 for choice of venue
1/10 for volume of music
Score 16/30

Agree - was a great idea but not quite executed properly
ReplyDeleteSorry it did not reach your expectation. The brief was to get the superswarm badge and that was achieved.
ReplyDeleteWe had 8 people (4sq community) with Superswarm t-shirts to help any issues.
The voucher problem was raised to the team and rectified in minutes.
Hello Foursquare Tips,
ReplyDeleteFirstly thanks for taking the time to write and post this, 1000's would not even bother.
As Chris said we were around to deal with any issues and while I got your tweet -
@foursquaretips Arrived 7.20 stopped the free drink voucher WTF! (@ Jewel Bar - home of the superswarm :-)
If you had asked one of us we could have sorted this out - indeed I would have loved to have helped.
If you are ever at an event of mine I would rather you came to find me and asked for help there and then. Most things can be resolved on the spot.
As far as the volume of the music goes..
I agree. I often wonder why bars don't make the connection between VERY loud music and having an empty venue.
I left earlier than I would have done with four others because I had lost my voice!
Keep in touch and thanks for taking part.
@Chris - I raised the issue on the departure from the venue with one of the organisers that gave me the voucher. I am pleased you rectified the issue but the issue of the volume of music was still a problem for any meaningful interaction.
ReplyDelete@Bernie - missed your tweet to meet up - will try and meet at the next event.
